Inspiration and Motivation

The Dominic Duhn Memorial Foundation was established to not only honor our son, Dominic but to carry on his legacy of helping others. We decided early on to live in the light of Dominic's beautiful life rather than the darkness of his passing. Our mission is to have a positive impact on as many people as possible just like Dominic did in his short life.

About Dominic

Dominic Duhn was a vibrant 20-year-old MSU student when he was killed by a hit-and-run while riding his skateboard on 9/3/2020. Dominic was an Eagle Scout who was kind, respectful, humble, non-judgmental, hardworking, and incredibly funny, with the ability to light up any room with his smile and laughter. He was always willing to share a hug or words of encouragement with those who needed it. His compassion and care for others will always be remembered.

The Unity Skatepark Story

Shortly after his death, Dominic’s younger brother, Enzo, and one of his best friends, Jack Tsalis, took it upon themselves to petition the township for a skatepark to be built in his honor. After much research and fundraising and an enormous amount of community support, this skatepark will now carry on Dominic’s legacy of helping others, which he was known for. We purposely designed this skatepark for all levels and also designed a seating area for those that just want to come as spectators and also to give the young people a place to hang out. Throughout this area, we have motivational quotes taken from Dominic's journal, some his own and some from the book he was reading, Help Yourself by Dave Pelzer. We are hoping that this space will be a place where one can not only enjoy themselves but also be inspired to be the best version of themselves. Dominic had a wide range of friends and was notorious for bringing them together in order to have a good time, which is why we named this skatepark Unity. Our hope is that this skatepark will be filled with people of all ages, ethnicities, and economic backgrounds, all coming together for a good time with lots of laughter, as Dominic would have wanted it.

Did you know?

Did you know that research has shown a striking correlation between skateboarding and improved mental health? Youth have also attributed skateboarding to helping them feel a sense of achievement when performing new tricks, learning and progressing when getting better on a board, and feeling like they could be themselves when at a skatepark.

There has never been a more important time in which to place importance on the physical, mental and social health of our youth. This skatepark addresses the needs of our community now more than ever.
